SAINTS ON RAILS 2…….Climb onboard this Train Trip for You and Your Dog/s.

Our first Train Trip last year was so successful we have decided to go again!

DATE Sunday 20 August 2023

Club members come and join the fun of a train trip on Goldfields Railway from Waihi, departing 9:45am (meeting at 9:30am prior to departure) and arriving in Waikino, Karangahake Gorge around 10:15am.

For those who want to, there is a short walk to the Victoria Battery which provides a wealth of information on just how the area boomed during the gold rush. (Walk straight from the Waikino Station to the Battery - approx 30 minutes return). It is a great opportunity for photos/picnic.

 After the walk, have a bite to eat or a drink at the Waikino Station Café or the Waikino Pub, then catch the 1pm train to return to Waihi (arriving at 1:30pm).

The train trip takes approx 30mins each way. Wheelchair access available on & off train.

The dogs are allowed in both the inside and open top carriages.

We hope to have a photographer with us to take pics of your dogs in this unique and special setting.

Spot Prizes including a bottle of Gold Medal Eliza’s Claim Gold Gin.

The return train trip costs are as follows:

Adults - $20.00pp

Seniors (65+) - $15.00pp

Children 5-16yrs - $12.00pp

Children Under 5yrs - $2.00pp

Family Concession of 2 adults and 2 children $55.00

Dogs – Free (must all be on lead)

This event is being held by the North Island St Bernard Assn Inc for club members and invited guests, for fun, to socialize the dogs and owners, to promote the St Bernard breed and to present positive dog ownership to the public.  

Your dogs must be on a suitable lead and under control at all times. One dog per adult handler.

We ask this due to your dogs being introduced to a new environment.

Hi everyone

It is with regret that the committee of the North Island St Bernard Assn has decided to cancel the Battle of the Giants for 2020.

We have rebooked twice from June to September and then October, and, if the Auckland region had been in a position to return to Level 1 a week ago, things might have been different.

There is a possibility that by the time the October date rolls around, the country will be in Level 1.  With current levels of infection, modelling indicating there is a 25% chance of a Covid-19 outbreak outside of Auckland, the time required for preparation and pre event cooking and planning, and the general uncertainty, it has been unanimously agreed that we do not want to have the responsibility and risk of holding a group event at this time.

This is the first time in nearly four decades that we have not held this eagerly anticipated annual event.

We would like to sincerely thank you for your support, your entries, and your acceptance of our decisions as we tried to navigate to through the process.

Please supply bank details so we can process refunds in full.

We can only look forward to next years event and we very much hope to see you there.

**Dogs cart at discretion of committee**.

Dogs under 18months can be harnessed to pull a sled but not a cart. Handlers must be 16 years old or over.

Some dogs take to carting very well but a very few do not. You won’t know until you try.
